Is Your Mouthwash Making Your Breath Stink?

Generally speaking mouthwash is very useful and helps clear bad breath. It also helps kill bacteria that form in the mouth, which leads to bad breath and other mouth problems. However, sometimes mouthwash can make the inside of your mouth smell bad.

The reason why mouthwash can sometimes make your breath stink is because the mouthwash you are using probably contains alcohol. The alcohol in mouthwash dries out protective saliva from your mouth and creates a greater risk for bacteria to form inside your mouth. If you use mouthwash, it is better to use alcohol free mouthwash in order to keep your natural juices in your mouth flowing.

Remember that just using an alcohol free mouthwash would not solve all your problem alone. There are certain other things that you need to take care of. Of them, water is an important factor. Make it a point to drink plenty of water with and in between your meals. Do not forget to rinse your mouth after every meal that you intake. These are some of the careful steps that you can take to have a healthy set of teeth.

One other point to think about regarding mouthwash treatments is that they work best when used along with regular brushing and flossing regiments.  Usually it is good to brush your teeth a minimum of twice a day-once in the morning and once at night. While brushing, you should remember to cover all areas of your mouth with your toothbrush, including not only your teeth, but also your .gums and your tongue. Furthermore, you should brush for a minimum of twenty seconds. In fact, some dentists suggest brushing for up to a minute or even two minutes. In between brushing, you should also rinse your mouth with clean water and then with the
mouthwash that your dentist recommends.

However, brushing after every meal is highly recommended, as well as flossing at least once daily. Furthermore, you should change your toothbrush at least once every 3 months to prevent further bacteria from forming on it. If you use a toothbrush too long, the bacteria can cause bad breath, but also sickness of other kinds, especially if used after a bout of strep throat other communicable disease.

If you have any questions about what would be the right toothbrush or what kind of dental floss is the best for your teeth, then you should ask your dentist upon your next scheduled visit. Along with that, you should always remember to schedule a dentist visit at least once every six months if you can. If you cannot see you dentist at least every six months, then go no less than once a year. Furthermore, if you notice any unusual problems with your teeth or gums such as extreme soreness or sharp pain, you should get this problem checked out immediately. Also, if you feel a cavity inside your mouth you should have this taken care of right away.

Along with asking your dentist about the right toothbrush, you should also ask your dentist what brand of toothpaste is best to use if you do not already know. Usually fluoride toothpaste or one with baking soda and peroxide works the best. This along with flossing and rinsing will help keep your breath smelling fresh and will help keep your teeth white. Teeth whitening treatments can be used as well, and are often sold in most grocery stores by other toothpaste products. All the products mentioned in this article will help reduce the chance of bacteria infection in your mouth that leads to bad breath.

A very important reason to make sure that you keep your mouth clean, however, goes way beyond preventing bad breath.  Keeping your teeth and mouth clean will also reduce the chance of gum disease or oral cancer forming. Furthermore, it will reduce or eliminate the need for fillings because you are less likely to have any cavities.  Likewise, if you keep your teeth and mouth clean, you reduce the risk of having teeth pulled or having root canals done. Dental work can hurt and can be expensive. Take care of your teeth and your teeth will give you a lifetime of use.
