Oklahoma Dental Association
The Oklahoma State Dental Association, the first Oklahoma dentist society was formed in the year 1891. The first ever dental office for the check up of the oral cavity, orthodontic care, cosmetic surgery and implant was founded in the year 1885, by Dr. J.E. Wright, in the township of McAlester. Till 1908, dentists were subjected to laws of the Oklahoma legislature and constitution. Only after that did the physicians come under the jurisdiction of the state law.
The current Oklahoma State Dental Association was a merger of two Oklahoma dentist associations, the Oklahoma Territorial Dental Association and the Indian Territory Association. This took place in 1907. The present association is affiliated to the American Dental Association and the American Dental Hygienists Association (ADHA), and by far come under the scrutiny and the legislation of the American constitution. It will therefore have to comply with rules, regulations and standards set by the constitution.
